Beginning of Summer Update

A new graphic design portfolio is available for viewing or download over on the Design page.

I’d also like to announce the launch of Sons of State, a website design and development partnership with Scott Reid. Scott and I worked together at The Ohio State University, and we both grew up on state-owned research farms, thus the name.

The Award-Winning Emdashes

2008 Webby Award Honoree logo

As noted in my blog, Emdashes.com has been recognized as a 2008 Webby Award Honoree. My illustrations were part of the team effort directed by House of Pretty. Congratulations to all involved!

Introducing Studio Notes

Inkleaf Studio is today declaring citizenship in Blogistan. In other words, I’ve added a blog to the site. In an optimistic experiment, I’m using the brand new blogging software Chyrp. See what you think, and if you’re so inclined, leave a comment for me.

Year 2008, Version 7.0

The last time I updated the site was just before Christmas and already it’s Valentine’s Day. The beginning of the year has been busy with some neglected projects in addition to new and ongoing work. One of those neglected projects was this website. While the site may look pretty much as it did before, it’s basically been rewritten from the style sheet up. The left-hand navigation now includes a link to my fine art page, partly to make it easier to find, but also because I plan to start painting again. My last show was way back in January of 2000, long enough ago to be embarrassing, and enough to give me a kick in the pants to begin planning a new show to be scheduled (tentatively) within the next year. The navigation also now has a link to a design page where recent projects will be showcased along with a current portfolio. A noticeable change on the home page is the addition of merchandise in the right sidebar. Please feel free to buy often!

Speaking of merchandise, I’d like to introduce Color Notes.

ABOVE: A closeup of the cover. BELOW: Detail of an inside page.

From its description at the Inkleaf Studio store at Lulu.com, Color Notes is “a planner and reference notebook for building, managing, and archiving color palettes using CMYK, RGB, PMS, and web hex values. It’s especially useful for bridging the color gap between print and web or multimedia projects.” If you’re anything like me, you still like to write certain things down, and, for notes on color, it’s just the place. Also available: Project Notes.

Other recent work includes logo artwork for a local furniture company and an illustration for Ohio magazine.

Holiday Greetings

It’s looking a lot like winter outside the studio windows, but it’s cozy inside as I wrap up a few projects before the holidays. Recent work includes a cover illustration for Red Bird, Green Bird, drawings for Organic Gardening magazine, and cover art for Corporate Dealmaker magazine. Click the image below for a larger view.

Window of Opportunity

I’ve also recently completed a profile illustration for blogger Silus Grok. You can read about the process of creating this pseudonymous work over at The Crow’s Nest blog.

And along with our first major snowstorm of the season, December brought the launch of Jodi Miller’s portfolio website jodiphoto. Other current projects include the soon-to-be-launched web design partnership Sons of State with developer Scott Reid, and identity tweaking, new label designs, and a website redesign for The Winery at Wolf Creek.
